Breast Lifts at Nashville Cosmetic Surgery
Over time, many women notice that their breasts have begun to droop. The skin around the breasts loses elasticity, and the breasts lose shape and firmness. This sagging can be the result of pregnancy, weight loss or simply a part of aging.
Also known as mastopexy, a breast lift raises and firms the breasts and elevates the nipple position. The breast tissue is repositioned and the breast skin tightened to reshape and support the new breast contour. Sometimes the areola becomes enlarged over time, and a breast lift will reduce the size as well. Incision patterns vary depending on degree of excess skin and amount of lifting required as well as patient and surgeon preference.
Breast lifts can be performed with or without breast implants. If you have adequate breast tissue and are happy with your breast size, a mastopexy is all that you need. If larger breasts are desired, then a breast enlargement with an implant is combined with a breast lift at the same surgery. Conversely, if the breasts are too large and heavy in addition to being saggy, then breast reduction may be recommended.
This 40 year-old woman was happy with her breast volume, but was unhappy with the worsening breast sagging caused by pregnancies and aging. Dr. Griffin did a mastopexy to lift the breast and elevate the nipple to a more pleasing position. She now says her breast don't feel so heavy at the end of the day and she doesn't feel like she has to wear a heavy supporting bra all the time.
What should you expect?
Pain from breast lift surgery is easily controlled with medication. Most patients only take narcotic medication for a few days. Swelling should subside in 2 to 4 weeks. It will take 2 to 3 months before the breast reach their final shape. Incision lines will continue to flatten and fade for up to a year.
